Hi!
I'm an electronic music producer, I work full time as a 3D graphics
designer, proudly exclusively using opensource software both at home and at
work (Linux Mint KDE5 is my go-to base system right now).
I'm currenty making videotutorials
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y93Jh1UIpys> about opensource music
production for YouTube, I've crossed 1k subscribers a few weeks ago.
I'm doing all my editing in Blender. But as I wanted to up my game, I see
that it's performance is very lacking in this regard (it can use just one
CPU core and no GPU, to speed up editing and rendering videos).
I've been looking around if there is anything else in the opensource world
that has better performance, while providing the features and stabilty that
I need, and sadly - I haven't found that yet.
I think it was a Nixie Pixel's video that mentioned your project, and I'd
like to say that it looks exciting.
I feel that the opensource nonlinear-video editing world needs to learn all
the lessons of what was done in the past here, and design something that'll
finally just cut it (pun intended).
I've recorded a video about Blender's VSE performance problems
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6PD6Zsh1bo> in hope that it'll remind to
Blender developers that the video editing aspect of Blender is needed for
artists, and that it needs a major rehaul.
I could switch to DaVinci Resolve or Lightworks, but I strongly believe in
the opensource community, and I wont to use what it creates to stimulate
it's growth. That's why I'm here.
I think that it might be an interesting watch for you, and maybe you will
hear something worth thinking about when creating Lumiera.
I'm not a (good) programmer, I'm an artist in big need for a solid
opensource video editor, so I'd like to keep in touch with you, and
hopefully help you out with the design.
I'd like to specifically ask you about plans to utilize OpenGL for frame
rendering.
I've recently found out about Natron (compositing software) and the fact
that it performs all rendering using OpneGL. I guess their rendering engine
could be a great resource for you to reference and borrow from: http:
natron.fr
Thank you for dedicating your time and effort to creating Lumiera :)
I hope it'll one day bring the opensouorce community a tool that it's in
such a bad need for.
