I figured out how to the gdl-package to configure when getting this message:

checking for intltool >= 0.35.0... ./configure: line 17053:
intltool-update: command not found
 found
configure: error: Your intltool is too old. You need intltool 0.35.0 or
later.

When I check synaptic (yes, Ubuntu 9.04) is shows that I have version:
0.35.0+20060710.1 installed

It seems as if it is not pathed by default and I had to add it to my
path in my .bashrc file and resource...

PATH=$PATH:/usr/share/intltool-debian/

It the configured correctly and I was able to finish the "Installing
gld" section of the newb doc. (I updated the wiki with this info as
well for the benefit of others)

This was the partial output of my testsuite:

Proc Layer combined operations Test Suite
TEST MediaAccessMock_test: .. FAILED
PLANNED RenderSegment_test: .. SKIPPED (planned)

 ... SUCCEDED 2 TESTS
 ... FAILED 170 TESTS
 ... SKIPPED 61 TESTS
 see ',testlog' for details
FAIL: ../tests/test.sh
==================
1 of 1 test failed
==================

QUESTIONS:

1. What does the testsuite do?

2. I'm assuming by the verbiage of the wiki (maybe run) that it is not
necessary to run it to get lumiera to run

Comment:

No, qualms about anything here because of the nature of the project FOSS
and the stage of development, but IMHO, projects should be build-able /
run-able without having to su to root...

What shared libraries are being updated that ldconfig needs to be run?
gdl-package?

Kdenlive:

A friend just pointed me to Kdenlive, QT based video editor that looks
pretty far along (nice)... I installed it from Synaptic and was able to
make a quick project and render video.
